PBI-USA invites you to a film festival starting on March 20th with a screening of La Lucha Sigue and ending with PBI's documentary La Sangre de la Tierra on March 22nd. This film festival is a celebration of World Water Day and the brave communities that put their lives on the line to defend it. 

 

MARCH 20TH

 

March 20th at 3PM EST

  • PI-USA is proud to be supporting the world premiere of La Lucha Sigue (The Struggle Continues) on Saturday, March 20 at 3 pm EST. The documentary follows two organizations in Honduras, COPINH and OFRANEH, as they fight for the protection of the environment and to uphold human and indigenous rights against state backed megaprojects. PBI-Honduras has accompanied COPINH since May 2016. There will be a panel featuring Bertha Zúniga Cáceres (COPINH) and Miriam Miranda (OFRANEH) at the end of the screening.

March 20th at 6PM EST

  • The film festival will also include a screening of Invasion at 6pm EST. Invasion is a short documentary about the struggle of Wet'suwet'en land defenders opposed to the construction of the Coastal GasLink fracked gas pipeline on their territories in British Columbia. There will be a panel featuring Freda Huson (Unist'ot'en) and Jen Wickham (Gidimt'en) at the end of the screening.

MARCH 21ST

 

March 21st at 2PM EST

  • The following day, Sunday, March 21 at 2 pm EST, there will be a screening of L'eau est la vie (Water is Life: From Standing Rock to the Swamp) about the struggle of Indigenous land defenders against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline that would carry fracked oil from Texas to refineries and ports in Louisiana.

March 21st at 4:30PM EST

  • Following the screening, there will be a group discussion at 4:30 pm EST with land defenders including Bertha Zúniga Cáceres (COPINH), Miriam Miranda (OFRANEH), Freda Huson (Unist'ot'en), Jen Wickham (Gidimt'en), and Cherri Foytlin (L'eau Est La Vie).

MARCH 22ND

 

March 22nd (Water Day) at 2PM EST 

  • Finally, to wrap things up, PBI-USA will be hosting a live screening of La Sangre de la Tierra on March 22nd, Water Day, at 2 PM EST. La Sangre de la Tierra' a documentary film made by Peace Brigades International and Asociación Entrepueblos, is celebrating its two year filming anniversary.
  • The documentary film by Félix Zurita tells the story of community resistance to hydroelectric dams. Specifically, opposition to the Puebla 1 dam in Mexico, Los Planes in Honduras, and the Renace and Oxec dams in Guatemala. You can find the trailer for the documentary here.
  • After the screening, Albertina López, resident of the Pajuiles community and member of the Political Coordination of the Broad Movement for Dignity and Justice (MADJ), and María Caal Xol, member of the Peaceful Resistance of Cahabón, will provide updates on the struggles depicted in the film.
