Today, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, a civil rights hero whose relentless fight for justice made the United States a better and more equal nation. Dr. King's non-violent philosophies have served as inspiration and influence to the principles of Peace Brigades International. Much like Dr. King, the founders of Peace Brigades International (PBI) shared a profound conviction that ordinary people can take action to stop war and human rights abuses and violations, even when their governments cannot or will not.

PBI envisions a world where people address conflicts nonviolently, where human rights are universally upheld and social justice and intercultural respect have become a reality. We believe that enduring peace and lasting solutions to conflicts cannot be achieved by violent means.

Today, we honor Dr. King's service by remembering one of his guiding principles: "the time is always right to do what is right."

For the past 40 years, Peace Brigades International has taken on the fight to defend and protect human rights defenders across the world. PBI has been conducting nonviolent activism and defending human rights in conflict zones throughout the world since 1981.

"We cannot walk alone." Dr. King expressed the value of unity with this short and simple quote. We would like to encourage you to take today to reflect on what motivates you and drives you to pursue justice and change. You aren't alone in making the world a better place!

PBI's 40th year anniversary comes at a time of rising hatred, bigotry, and military conflict both inside the United States and around the world. In order to help us prepare for future challenges, please consider making a donation to PBI-USA. You may donate online or make a check.

Sincerely,
