As you know, the struggle for human rights is not over and our work in Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nepal, Honduras, Kenya, and Nicaragua is more important now than ever as attacks against human rights are on the increase.
Since April 28th, hundreds of thousands of Colombians have protested throughout the country against the government. The crackdowns on the protests have resulted in the deaths of at least 43 people. 3,405 cases of police brutality have been registered, along with 1,445 arbitrary arrests. At least 1,133 people have suffered physical violence by the police, while 47 victims sustained eye injuries many times resulting from US-made tear gas. It has also resulted in targeted attacks on human rights defenders, including many of those that are accompanied by PBI.
As we move forward through the rest of the year, we will continue to support human rights defenders across the world through our physical accompaniment, and continue to amplify the message of human rights defenders. But, we cannot do this without your support.
