In May 2024, Pat Davis completed her eighth and final year with PBI as the U.S. advocacy director. With a child going off to college, Pat and her husband now have the freedom to travel and engage in meaningful work in places near and far. We wish them safe travels and a lifetime of adventure as they continue to do good work around the world.
Pat’s departure comes at a time when advocacy efforts in the U.S. must be reevaluated to ensure effectiveness. To develop and carryout PBI’s advocacy strategy in the U.S. under the current context, we have formed a new advocacy committee co-chaired by DC-based NCC members Andrew Miller and Daniella Burgi-Palomino. The PBI-USA advocacy committee will work closely with our teams providing on-the-ground protection to determine which advocacy strategies should be pursued in the coming year. We have already received word that some accompanied defenders will travel to Canada but not the U.S. in 2025 because of the Trump administration’s hostility towards not only those who criticize him but foreigners in general.
